2018 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Australian representatives Sinead Diver and Ellie Pashley continued their impressive form by setting personal best times in the women’s ASICS Half Marathon.
41-year-old Diver, who finished behind back-to-back winner Sara Hall (USA) in 1:09:53, improved her half marathon personal best of 1:11:40, recorded at the World Championships in Valencia earlier this year, by one minute and 47 seconds and was named the IAAF Oceania Area Half Marathon champion. Her run was the fifth fastest by a woman on Australian soil.
Pashley also enjoyed the fast conditions and improved her personal best time with a fifth place 1:10:57.
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games representative Madeline Hills’ impressive 32:35 first place in the Southern Cross University 10km Run on Saturday 30 June, the second fastest time in the event history, led the field to impressive performances.
Following Hills over the line were NSW’s Marnie Ponton (2nd, 33:12), South Australian Caitlin Adams (3rd, 33:27), Victoria’s Charlotte Wilson (4th, 34:08) and Belinda Martin (5th, 34:29) with all four women slashing time off their personal bests.
Jordan Gusman, 24, put a gap on his rivals in the opening kilometre and powered away to break an eight-year-old race record by 11 seconds, previously held by Michael Shelley, to win the men’s 10km race in 28:42. The time was just outside his personal best of 28:39 but under the race record that Gusman predicted was going to be broken.
The 41st Gold Coast Marathon, held 6 – 7 July 2019, will feature eight races including the Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport Fun Run, Garmin 4km Junior Dash and Garmin 2km Junior Dash.
The Gold Coast Marathon is organised by Events Management Queensland, a major event management company wholly owned by the Queensland Government as part of Tourism and Events Queensland.
