Indian set to pace his way through the ASICS Half Marathon

Indian runner Thanuj Kumar is busy preparing for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon on Sunday 3 July where he will encourage and support ASICS Half Marathon participants as one of Pat Carroll’s Online and Onland Pacers.

It was the prestige of the world class event, along with the beautiful Gold Coast weather, that enticed the international to enter this year’s event as a pace runner.

“It was the name and location of the race which made me want to run this wonderful marathon. I am sure that I will enjoy every moment,” Thanuj said.

“I can’t wait for the beautiful weather, the great course, a big crowd and lastly, a beautiful and deserved finisher medal to take back home and set up in my trophy cabinet.”

It was Thanuj’s love for the sport that prompted him to give back to the running community by becoming a Pat Carroll Online and Onland Pacer and is determined to assist half marathoners reach their goal time of 1hour and 50minutes.

“I decided in late 2015 that I would start pacing in races to help fellow runners finish and reach their goal,” he said.

“I will make sure they reach the finish line within 1:50 and achieve a personal best time. Their smile will make me happy at the end of the day.”

Thanuj insists he is remaining confident and calm going into the race and is thoroughly excited to meet runners along the way.

“It is important to keep calm and encourage runners throughout the race,” he said.

“Being an international runner, I love to share stories and ask them questions during the run.

“Before we know it, we will be at the finish line. No tension and no pressure.”
