For the first time in its 45-year history the 2025 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon and China Airlines Half Marathon have sold out with the event taking more registrations in the first four days of opening than ever before.
The ASICS Gold Coast Marathon will boast the largest field in the event’s history with 15,000 runners taking on the 42.195km signature event in the only event now staged on the Sunday of race weekend. The China Airlines Half Marathon will see more than 10,000 runners tackle the 21km course.
And in keeping with its destination appeal more than 54 per cent of registrations so far come from outside Queensland with participants from 49 countries (compared to 45 in 2024) set to toe the starting line on 5 and 6 July 2025.
The new schedule of events means those people who love running can compete in multiple distances with 38 eager runners already registered for the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, China Airlines Half Marathon, the Southern Cross University 10km Run and the Gold Coast Airport 5km Run.
Events Management Queensland (EMQ) CEO Ben Mannion said it’s been less than two weeks since registrations opened, and we are astonished and delighted with the level of enthusiasm for our event and the entry numbers.
“There were 4900 marathon, and 2600 half marathon runners registered within the first hour of entries opening.
“We have entrants from more countries than ever before with interstate numbers also taking a leap and entries from New South Wales up by 1000 and those from Victoria up by almost 900 runners.
“The fact that we have so many more entrants travelling to the event means the accommodation and hospitality providers in the region will be inundated and that equates to a hefty boost to the economic impact which from this year’s event was more than $50 million.
“We have also added a new initiative for 2025 with a limited number of entries provided to our official charity partners with applicants willing to raise $2000 eligible for a place in their chosen race.
“We hope the Gold Coast community will join with us in celebrating the 45th year of this increasingly popular home-grown event in 2025.
“We will be looking at activations across the suburbs on course to entertain the runners as they pass by and engage the locals in free and fun activities so they too can be a part of the action and celebrate such a spectacular home-grown event,” Mr Mannion said.
There are limited entries still available in the Southern Cross University 10km Run however there is significant opportunity for the whole family to enter the Gold Coast Airport 5km and for children from 5-14 years to experience the thrill of competition in the Australia Fair 2km Junior Dash. Entry is also available for the Wheelchair Marathon, 10km and 5km races.
