Entry for the 2025 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon will open today Monday 2 December with a revised race schedule that will see the 42.195km signature race become the sole event on Sunday of the 5-6 July race weekend.
In an initiative that will allow more participants to enjoy the challenge of the marathon distance, all other races including the China Airlines half marathon, the Southern Cross University 10km run, Wheelchair 10km, Gold Coast Airport 5km run and shorter distance events will take to the start line on Saturday.
Events Management Queensland CEO, Ben Mannion said they expected a surge of early entries across all events particularly those that reached capacity in 2024.
“We have reviewed last year’s event and in consultation with key stakeholders we have decided with a few amendments to the marathon course we will be able to accommodate extra participants including those in the wheelchair marathon.
“It made sense to hold all other events on the Saturday and make it more of a community friendly celebration of running followed by the longer haul marathon held on the Sunday.
“The 4km Junior Dash will be merged into the 5km run in 2025 with the Australia Fair 2km Junior Dash open to children from five to 14 years old.”
Mr Mannion said he was delighted to also announce that FIXX nutrition had upgraded their status as the ‘Official Electrolyte and Official Gel’ partner and extended their partnership for three years which also includes naming rights for the increasingly popular Gold Coast double 63.3km event.
“It will be known as the FIXX nutrition Gold Coast double 63.3km – for those eager endurance runners who want to tackle the half marathon on Saturday and back it up with the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon on Sunday.
Mr Mannion said the event had delivered a record economic impact of almost $50million in 2024 with the prospect of a greater boost to the local economy commensurate with the potential increase in participation numbers in 2025.
“Whilst it is very important to balance the volume of entries with the overall event experience, we want to ensure that our participants who come from all over Australia and the world enjoy the event and time spent on the Gold Coast and in Queensland.
“We are world famous for the fast, flat and particularly scenic course that runs alongside the ocean and the beautiful Broadwater and we are intent on maintaining that vital tourism and destination drawcard as we grow,” Mr Mannion said.
Minister for Tourism and Sport and Minister for Science and Innovation, Andrew Powell said that this event was a major a highlight in the Queensland calendar and he can’t wait to see what 2025 holds.
“The 2024 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon proved its incredible ability to draw in the crowds from far and wide. It was a sell-out, so I’d encourage anyone who is keen to be involved in the 2025 program to get in quick to avoid disappointment. This isn’t one to miss!
“The numbers driven by the ASICS Gold Coast Marathon weekend are huge for Queensland and so valuable to the beautiful Gold Coast, as racegoers flock to fuel up at the local cafes, shop at the businesses.
City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said we know Gold Coasters and visitors have been voting with their feet, with GC marathon races selling out in recent years.
“Get in early and don’t miss the chance to be part of the action on the spectacular course, showcasing our amazing city to the world,” Mayor Tate said.
The 2025 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon welcomes the return of BMW who will come on board as the official vehicle and exclusive partner of the Gold Coast Marathon app.
Australia Fair has signed on for naming rights of the 2km Junior Dash and will continue as valued partner of the volunteer program.
And in an exciting local initiative the Gold Coast Community Fund will become one of two official charity partners for the 2025 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon.
