The Gold Coast Airport Marathon today unveiled its new theme, ‘Good Times’, which promotes the event’s status as Australia’s fastest marathon providing participants the opportunity to produce personal best times along with the host city’s international appeal as a world class tourism destination.

Gold Coast Airport Marathon Chairman Kerry Watson said the new theme supports the fact that 61.9% of last year’s runners achieved a personal best time while highlighting the Gold Coast as a premier holiday running destination.

“The Gold Coast for a long time had the reputation as a destination to have a good time, and with our event producing an extremely high percentage of personal best times for runners, good times can be achieved on and off the marathon course,” Mr Watson said.

“The theme cohesively captures Gold Coast’s famous golden sandy beaches and iconic Surfers Paradise skyline while triggering a fun, passionate and celebratory emotional connection with bright colours and a diverse range of runners.

“We’re confident the new branding will entice more interstate and international runners to the Gold Coast to compete on our picturesque course and enjoy our famous attractions and stunning surf beaches after their run.

“The Gold Coast’s tagline is ‘famous for fun’ and now it is famous for our run which is an internationally acclaimed marathon.”

With less than 12 weeks until the 37th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon, the new branding will be immediately rolled out on the event’s website and social media channels in addition to print and television advertising campaigns.

“This year’s event is approaching and we hope the new branding will create a surge in online conversations with runners in Australia and across the world,” Mr Watson said.

“The launch of the branding is also a gentle reminder for people who haven’t committed yet to secure their position on the start line and take advantage of our early bird fees which close on Thursday 30 April.”

The Gold Coast Airport Marathon will be held on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July in one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world in Queensland, Australia.

It is set to attract more than 27,000 participants of all ages and abilities across a number of events including the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km & 2km races.
