Since 2011, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the Kobe marathon, staged in the beautiful port City of Kobe in the Kansai region of Japan, have had a memorandum of understanding (MOU) designed to assist each other in the ongoing development of the respective events.
This agreement lead to the annual exchange of runners between Kobe and the Gold Coast, observer programs, race programming knowledge, marketing opportunities and goodwill between the two great races.
On the weekend of 19 and 20 November, Gold Coast Airport Marathon CEO Cameron Hart travelled to the sixth edition of the annual Kobe Marathon to attend the race expo to promote the Gold Coast Airport Marathon directly to the 20,000 marathoners and 2,000 10km runners.
Over the course of the weekend Cameron attended several key functions where he was able to further promote the Gold Coast and its IAAF Road Race Gold Label marathon to key stakeholders.
The most significant ceremony was the signing of a new five year MOU between the two events, extending the relationship to November 2020.
This new agreement will see the exchanges between the two races continue and further build the ties between the Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the huge running market in Japan.
