It was a family affair in the Australia Fair 2km Junior Dash with both winners coming from running families.

14-year-old Cameron Cox (06:09) took out a comfortable win in the boy’s event after notching a personal best in the Southern Cross University 10km earlier today.

“I’m very happy with that 2km race. I was just trying to get somewhere near low sixes,” Cox said.

The boy from Brisbane is training for the state and national cross country championships which will be held later this year.

Also from Brisbane, 13-year-old, Victoria Huang, crossed the line first for the second time in the Australia Fair 2km event with a record time of 06:23.

“I loved winning in 2023 so it’s great to be back,” Huang said.

"It’s amazing to break the record. I wasn’t going for it, but to get it today is just awesome."

Victoria’s dad Jason Huang will be the three-hour pacer for tomorrow’s marathon and her younger brother, Roger, also gave the 2km a crack.

“I've been running for five years. I don’t train with a special group, I just train with my dad, Jason and brother, Roger,” Huang said.

“I was feeling pretty good after the 1km and then it started to burn a bit, but I just kept pushing - it’s an easy course to sprint.”

Not afraid of a challenge, Victoria also took on the Gold Coast Airport 5km race.

“I’m about to back it up and do the 5km which starts in 20 minutes and then I’ll celebrate after!” Huang said.
