Planning for a COVID safe, 2021 edition of the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon has ramped up now that travel and mass gatherings restrictions across Australia are easing. We do anticipate on-course running conditions will be relatively unrestricted by July 2021, however some restrictions and health protocols may be required by authorities.
In order to prepare to anticipated government regulations, we have responded by revising the race weekend schedule which provides for a balanced race precinct crowd number over each day, to enable practical, COVID safe attendance at the event.
The biggest changes are the moving of the ASICS Half Marathon to start at 6am on Saturday morning, and the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon to a 6am start on Sunday morning as outlined in the 2021 Race Weekend Schedule.
We appreciate the changes will disadvantage some and provide advantages to others.
Our marathoners will be pleased to be starting at 6am when it’s cooler than the previous 7:20am start.
Half marathoners who like to run on the Sunday now must choose between a running their favoured distance on a Saturday, or run a 10km or marathon on Sunday.
Those who prefer greater challenges could double up and run the ASICS half marathon on Saturday and back up to run the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast marathon, or the Southern Cross University 10km run on Sunday. There are several options to ‘double up” within the program which will appeal to many.
Please refer to our FAQ section here for further information on the revised schedule.
After the 2021 event, we will be seeking feedback from all stakeholders on the impacts of the revised program and then evaluate that feedback to shape the 2022 and beyond event weekend programs.
Please take the time to review the 2021 schedule and use the information to make your Gold Coast travel plans in 2021. We anticipate a high demand on accommodation and airlines next July and recommend booking your Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon travel as soon as you can. We are planning on opening entries in February 2021.
