Four significant sponsor announcements were made today, in the wake of entries opening for the 41st Gold Coast Marathon.

To be held on Saturday 6 – Sunday 7 July, the 2019 race weekend has been boosted by the re-signing of three long-term sponsors to extended agreements while a Surfers Paradise landmark has become the official hotel.

Leading sportswear and sports equipment manufacturer ASICS, a global partner of the Gold Coast marathon for over 20 years, has renewed for another three to become the marathon’s longest serving sponsor.

ASICS will retain naming rights sponsorship of the ASICS Half Marathon and the ASICS Sport & Leisure Expo as well as being the supplier of official event footwear and apparel.

Meanwhile, Garmin has been revealed as the official timepiece of the 2019 Gold Coast Marathon along with confirmation that the celebrated worldwide provider of wearable activity trackers will once again have naming rights sponsorship of the 4km and 2km children’s races.

Known as the Garmin Junior Dash, the race is Australia’s largest for children aged 5 to 14.

Endura has extended its tenure as the official sports nutrition provider of the event with a three-year agreement.

The Brisbane-based next-generation sports nutrition manufacturer will supply thousands of litres of electrolytes for the refreshment stations in the full Gold Coast Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon and Southern Cross University 10km events.

And the Gold Coast Marathon has a towering new sponsor with QT Gold Coast also inking a three-year sponsorship agreement to become the official hotel of the internationally-acclaimed road race.

The partnership with the world-class Surfers Paradise property is a major coup with its central location ideal for the elite athletes and other visiting participants and supporters.

Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart warmly welcomed the sponsorship announcements.

“It a hugely exciting day for us with the signing of these long-term agreements straight after a positive first couple of days of entries,” Mr Hart said.

“These early commitments by world-leading supporters augur well for another record-breaking year for our truly iconic event,” he said.

After a healthy association over two decades, worldwide sportswear and sports equipment manufacturer ASICS is back for 2019, 2020 and 2021 to become the event’s most enduring sponsor ever.

ASICS will retain naming rights sponsorship of the ASICS Half Marathon and the ASICS Sport & Leisure Expo as well as being the supplier of official event footwear and apparel.

Cameron Hart said ASICS’ continued support is a testament to the calibre of the event.

“We have been on a truly fantastic journey with ASICS and we are thrilled the association will continue well into the foreseeable future,” Mr Hart said.

“The shoes and clothing that so many of our participants run in are consistently ranked in the top athletic performance products in the world market, underlining what a quality sponsor we have for our half marathon event.”

“Garmin leads the way in providing wearable technology that is not only impressive in design and application, but which engages and helps promote activity amongst children in plenty of fun and exciting ways.

“In Australia and across the world, thousands upon thousands of pint-sized powerhouses are inspired to do their best every day through technology designed and produced by Garmin for people their age.”

Mr Hart said there will be added incentive for both the youngsters and elite runners to run well on the race weekend.

“As the official timepiece of our 2019 event, Garmin’s presence extends over both days with Garmin watches for the boy and girl winners of each Junior Dash race and for the three placegetters in the men’s and women’s marathons.

“The Garmin logo will also feature prominently on the finish line clock and the lead vehicle.”

Garmin Australasia General Manager Matthew Thomas said the extended partnership aligns with a shared philosophy that fitness should be fun.

“We are very excited to once again support Australia’s premier road race and take the fitness journey with so many of our valued customers who will be taking part on the weekend,” Mr Thomas said.

Endura’s signing extends a sponsorship arrangement that has been in place for over 10 years to continue a great Queensland partnership.

“Endura has been trusted by athletes for over 25 years,” Mr Hart said.

“The company pours an enormous amount of research and technical knowledge into their products to help take the performances of people of all ages and abilities to the next level.

“And being a well-established Queensland company, we couldn’t be happier to have the Endura team on board our iconic Queensland event for another three years.”

Endura will provide gels for distribution at the Endura Power Station during the marathon, as well as wax free paper cups for on-course consumption of electrolyte and drink bottles for the elite athletes.

There will also be an on-course activation during the half marathon by the Endura Energy Angels.

Endura Senior Brand Manager Carl Pfeiffer said sports nutrition is no longer exclusively for elite athletes.

“While these supplements are tried, tested, trusted and taken by many top professional athletes, Endura can be used by any level of sports participant,” Mr Pfeiffer said.

“Proper nutrition to aid preparation, performance and recovery is essential for everyone, and providing that is what we are all about.”

The Gold Coast Marathon has a towering new sponsor with the QT Gold Coast inking a three-year sponsorship agreement to become the official hotel of the internationally-acclaimed road race.

“QT Gold Coast will be the venue of our official functions and elite athlete accommodation in the lead up to and during the event,” Mr Hart said.

“Competitors who choose to stay at the official hotel will be close to the Broadwater Parklands race precinct and all the great attractions that Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast have to offer, plus they’ll have the chance of seeing the elite athletes and ambassadors using QT Gold Coast’s facilities.

“The QT is also a short walk to race precinct transport options, including the popular G:link, which helps remove any added stress on race day.”

The Gold Coast Marathon annually attracts over 27,000 participants who run the streets of the city on its flat course by the ocean.


The event

The Gold Coast Marathon is a major highlight on the Queensland event calendar with 28,000 runners taking part from more than 50 countries.

The two-day program of the 41stannual event will be held on the weekend of 6-7 July 2019.

The 2019 event will attract participants across eight races including the Gold Coast Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Gold Coast Airport Fun Run, Garmin 4km Junior Dash and Garmin 2km Junior Dash.
