Friends Christopher Evans and Antony Seman will participate in 28 endurance events this year attempting to raise $20,000 for Cancer Council Queensland. Their mission includes running the 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon on Sunday 3 July.

Their quest will also incorporate five ultramarathons, four marathons, the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea and numerous half marathons.

Christopher’s love for running ignited after participating at last year’s Gold Coast Airport Marathon, while Antony took up the sport shortly afterwards.

The 24-year-old Brisbane locals’ passion for the sport has escalated to new heights with the duo committing their runs to a cause, having raised $6,008 of their $20,000 fundraising goal.

“I ran my first marathon on the Gold Coast and absolutely loved it! The crowd support and location is amazing!  Since then, Antony and I thought it was a no-brainer to add it to our schedule this year,” Christopher said.

“We both hope to run personal best times on the Gold Coast.”

Cancer Council Queensland has been the official charity of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon for the past 11 years, helping raise funds for life-saving cancer research.

This year, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is set to attract more than 27,000 participants on its fast, flat and scenic course. Many more will be on hand to cheer and celebrate the achievements of the runners.

“We have chosen to run for cancer because we really want to help people,” Christopher said.

“There isn’t a cure for all cancers yet, so running and raising money for Cancer Council Queensland is our way of helping.  Hopefully it will inspire people just like us to constantly strive towards a goal and avoid their comfort zone.

“You’d be surprised at how far you can go to accomplish something.

“We also chose Cancer Council Queensland because they’re involved at many of the events we’re at and it’s good to see their team go through everything with us.”

The men have been documenting their journey via their website. They also have Instagram and Facebook pages as well as an Everyday Hero page where contributions to their $20,000 fundraising goal can be made.

Early bird entries for the 2016 Gold Coast Airport Marathon finish Thursday 28 April (11:59pm AEST).
