The official radio station of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, 102.9 Hot Tomato, will be interviewing a Gold Coast runner each week in the lead up to the event in July. Listen to their inspirational stories below and be inspired to enter Australia’s first & only gold label marathon.

Carrara resident Alec Wallis will race the Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge as a means to stay fit and live a healthy life. The 73-year-old loves the atmosphere of the event and enjoys being surrounded by like-minded people.

In 2005, Loretta Hill from Mermaid Beach was diagnosed with cancer and soon changed her way of living including eating healthy and increasing her amount of physical exercise. She will return to the Gold Coast Airport Marathon after completing the Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge last year to prove she can do it again.

Broadbeach Waters local Kellie Morrisey will be running in the Southern Cross University 10km Run after recovering from a broken foot last last year. Kellie has roped her work colleague in to running alongside her and has her eyes set on racing in the ASICS Half Marathon next year.

Oxenford local Brett Hayes completed the ASICS Half Marathon last year and now, after being inspired by watching his team mates cross the 42.195km finish line last year, he will take on the big challenge this year. He aims to finish under four hours.

68-year-old Broadbeach Waters great grandmother Leoni Ross will be participating in the Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge after beating a cancer diagnosis recently. Leoni has tried to race the 42.195km Gold Coast Airport Marathon for the past three years but has been unable to due to a hip replacement. She hopes this year will begin her campaign to the ASICS Half Marathon next year.

Burleigh Heads local Sophie Curnow will be attempting her second Gold Coast Airport Marathon this July and will use it as another stepping stone towards her debut New York City Marathon this November.
