IAAF Gold Label Road Race

At the beginning of 2014, the Gold Coast Marathon became the first marathon in Australia to be awarded an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold Label Road Race, putting it in esteemed international company.

Each year, the IAAF awards road race labels to marathons whose organisers have met strict criteria for excellence in planning and delivery. The Gold Coast Marathon met the IAAF’s six main requirements including:

  • Race organisation
  • Course measurement
  • Timing and results
  • Media services
  • Medical provisions
  • Quality of the international field of elite runners

The gold label is the highest qualification awarded by the IAAF and it elevates the Gold Coast Marathon to one of the most prestigious marathons in the world, alongside races such as the New York City Marathon, Boston Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Berlin Marathon, London Marathon and Chicago Marathon.

The history-making accolade is a testament to the meticulous organisation of the Gold Coast Marathon, whose organisers pride themselves on their continual improvement and thorough planning to deliver a world-class event to 25,000 runners over two days across eight races.
